Red Baneberry / Red Cohosh Remedy

Here’s a good example of when poison is also medicine! I came across a huge stand of Red Baneberry (unripened) yesterday, which is also called Red Cohosh (Actaea rubra).

Everything above ground is very poisonous, but the roots are known for assisting with lower back problems, PMS, menopause… so in an energetic/spiritual sense, it moves downward. It’s sometimes referred to as “grandmother medicine” due to its support with menopause.

I have photos of the flowers and ripe berries from previous outings, but at this moment I just don’t feel like sifting through my plethora of wildflowers and remedios photos to locate them right no

What’s probably better known is Black Cohosh (Actaea racemosa) which is readily available in capsules at herb and health stores. Black Cohosh doesn’t grow in New Mexico.
