Artemisia Trio is a desert botanical salve created in homage to the three Artemisias we work with most: big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata), prairie sage (Artemisia ludoviciana), and mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris). Sagebrush is respectfully wild-harvested while the prairie sage and mugwort are garden grown. All were infused into olive oil to capture the distinctive presence of each.
Artemisias have long histories of both topical and ceremonial use. Their strongly aromatic leaves have traditionally been prepared as washes, poultices, baths, and body oils, particularly for cleansing and comforting tired, weathered bodies. In this salve, their infused oils provide a rich botanical base for moisturizing dry skin or incorporating into massage.
Spiritually, these plants are often associated with purification, protection, intuition, and the spaces between worlds. Sagebrush carries the expansive spirit of the Western landscape and a long relationship with cleansing and protection. Prairie sage has been cherished as a plant of prayer, purification, and ceremony. Mugwort is traditionally connected with dreams, intuition, protection, and liminal work.

A note on aroma: We want to be transparent — although this salve contains three distinct Artemisias, its aroma is unmistakably sagebrush-forward. Sagebrush has such a powerful and singular fragrance that nothing else can quite top it! Mugwort and prairie sage contribute to the salve’s botanical and energetic character, but the familiar scent of sagebrush takes the lead. If you have previously ordered our Big Sagebrush Salve, expect a similar aromatic experience—with mugwort and prairie sage adding their own botanical and energetic qualities to the blend.
